<p><strong>Diane Battersby</strong> has performed numerous solo recitals in the United States and Europe. As a winner of the 1992 Artists International Auditions, she was presented in a New York recital debut at Carnegie&#8217;s Weill Recital Hall in 1993. Other New York City performances include Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, the 92nd Street Y, Steinway Hall, Trinity Church Concerts series, and the American Landmark Festivals. She has also performed as soloist with orchestra in the New York and Philadelphia areas. As part of the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, Diane was broadcast live nation wide on National Public Radio, WBAI and WNYC Radio, and been a featured artist on Chicago and New York television. Diane Battersby has recorded for Nonesuch records and performed with the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble. Ms. Battersby traveled to Germany to perform solo recitals and a world premiere of a piano work written for her by a German composer. She has performed at Moscow conservatory&#8217;s Rachmaninov Hall and at the Salle Cortot in Paris. Diane Battersby has served on the faculty of both William Paterson University and Montclair State University.</p>

<p>This teachers’ workshop will highlight practical techniques to enhance ensemble playing and teaching in your studio.  It will Include discussion and demonstration of Balance, Uniformity, Pedal, Physical Signals, Physical Problems, and Interpretation.  There will be practical suggestions and tips for teachers and time for a question and answer period at the end.<br />
Handouts will include a summary of the presentation and a repertoire list of duet material, appropriate for various levels.<br />
This presentation was enthusiastically received at the 2009 World Pedagogy Conference, the 2011 Arizona State Teachers&#8217; Conference, and will be presented at the MTNA 2012 National Conference.</p>

Alan Wasserman will speak on the importance of keeping motivated for learning year after year.  Techniques for enlivening the process of learning will be discussed for our selves, and our students.  This will include discussion of his recent trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, with 6 of his students and their families. </p>
<p>SMEA member Alan Wasserman is a Past President of both the Music Educators Association of NJ, and the Cecilian Music Club of 1883.  He teaches piano privately in Jackson, and performs regularly, giving &#8220;Guided Listening Recitals&#8221; that mix commentary and playing.  He has also been producing a series of recordings called the Guided Listening Series&#8221;.  Alan continues his studies in Classical piano technique (he loves the Taubman approach), and Jazz improvisation (most recently with David Hazeltine).
