Youth in Music

PURPOSE: To provide student an opportunity to present a recital program of repertoire representing all four music periods

ELIGIBILITY: All students Grade 9th through 11th whose teachers are members of SMEA in good standing

REPERTOIRE Four memorized works; total performance time 15-25 minutes
1. Bach: a contrapuntal composition
2. One sonata-allegro movement by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven
3. Romantic/Impressionistic work by Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninov, etc.
4. Modern work from 1950 to present
It is recommended that teachers check with Diane Dollak (fdollak@hotmail.com) well before audition on acceptability of chosen repertoire

ADJUDICATION: By two SMEA members

FEE: $35 per student; one check per teacher; payable to SMEA

AWARDS
1.  Personalized plaque
2.  An opportunity to perform a 15-25 minute program in a SMEA student recital during 2010-2011 season
Performance may include new repertoire not used for audition, and/or all, part, or none of repertoire used for audition
Teacher is to submit well in advance to recital chairperson the repertoire and a short biography of the winning student

AUDITION DATE: Saturday, June 4, 2011
